About

Nicolas Thionville
Principal and General Contractor

Nicolas Thionville’s family has been working with wood for several generations: loggers, sawmill, cabinet makers, carpenters, and timberframers. Growing up in Normandy, France, Nicolas has been building things with wood since he was a kid. At the age of 16, Nicolas started a traditional apprenticeship in timberframing. For more information about Nicolas’s timberframing work, you can visit our Timeless Timberframers website.

When he lived in Europe, Nicolas specialized in restoration. He worked on many buildings that were over 500 years old. Since moving to the United States in 1997, he has worked on many historic restorations, as well as relocations of old houses and log cabins. Nicolas also specializes in repairing major structural issues on old or new buildings. He worked on the restoration of Montpelier, James Madison’s homeplace.
